The Man Behind the Camera: An Interview with Capture Rose

Creativity is born inside of a person- but it takes passion and drive for it to find its roots in your life. With Central Florida being a hub of activity all year round, it’s no surprise that artists flourish in the sunshine state as they visit cities, springs, theme parks and interact with the diverse people who claim this state as their home.

One photographer has caught our attention with his creative angles, raw passion that shines in every shot and use of Dark Photography. After meeting with this man the first time and seeing his photography, we were able to schedule an interview with local rider Kevin Alexander Barahona (aka Capture Rose), and speak with him about his passions and drive.

Read on to hear from Kevin about his riding experiences, photography business, and a glance into this family man’s life.

When did you fall in love with motorcycles and become involved with the Moto Community?

“Since I was little, my uncles all had bikes so I grew up around them.” Explained Kevin, “ And then it was always my dream to get one, so I finally made the move and got the Wifey to approve.”

Kevin explained that his Wife is fully supportive, but was initially just nervous for his safety. Luckily, Kevin is a very smart rider, and was able to get her on board for him to purchase his 2018 Grom from Seminole Powersports in Eustis three years ago.

How did you become involved with the moto community now? Did it progress naturally since you got your bike?

“As soon as I got my bike, I already had some friends who were getting bikes or already had bikes, and then I just joined Bike Pages on Facebook.

My first ride was a big Hawaiian Ride in Tampa, it was huge! It was all Groms- we went all the way from Tampa to Clearwater, so we went all over the bay area. It was so much fun, and we ended up at the Gandy Bridge and everything, it was awesome.”

How did you come across your Grom the first time around, and how did you know it was your bike?

“I used to watch YouTube a lot- I used to watch this guy called MasFace, and he got me into it.” Says Kevin, “MasFace, Gromie Bear (Now G Bear), and a few other people and motovloggers that had groms and I thought- that’s the perfect bike!”

What is your current ride?

“I have a 2020 Kawasaki Z900. It is absolutely my favorite ride, and I bought it from RideNow Ocala.”

Kevin explained that he was actually looking at another model completely- the Z800. When he found one, it was currently available in Gainesville

“I came to get that,” Said Kevin, “Then I saw the silver and blue, and I fell in love with it. I love all sport bikes, but you know, I always like naked bikes, and that’s why I was so attracted to it and the color- the color scheme, Kawasaki killed it!”

When asked if Kevin was in the market for a different bike in the future, his response was, “I think I’m set. I love my bike, that’s my long-term bike for sure!”

Do you like short rides or long rides more?

“It depends- if I go on a long ride, I’ll just get ready for the whole day.” Explains Kevin, “If I’m going on a short ride, my mindset is “I’m going on a short ride, then going back home.” But I like both. Sometimes a short ride is a great way to get my mind off things, and come back home and I’m fine.

A lot of people will say “don’t ride when you’re upset, don’t ride when you’re mad” but sometimes it helps, big time. As long as you control yourself with the throttle, don’t get too crazy because you will definitely regret it.”
With your rides, do you go for the journey or the location you’re heading towards?

“Usually there’s no plan, I just go to go.” Kevin explained with enthusiasm, “Sometimes I’ll come up with a little route on the spot, and then we just do that. But it’s just a feel. Everybody’s all together, everybody’s there for the same passion- it’s fun. It’s awesome.”

Do you prefer group rides or solo rides?s

“I prefer group rides!” Enthused Kevin, “Especially when everybody’s cool, not hot heads or anything. I do love speed- we do pools once in a while during the ride, but we can’t get too crazy because I don’t want to be in the news. I’ve got my baby and my wife to go home to.”

What are some Riding must haves for you?

“Definitely have to have my Sena Charged (https://www.sena.com/) , there’s no way I’m not talking to my homies on the way there. I definitely gotta bring some sort of water, juice, if you don’t plan on stopping. A go-pro, chargers, emergency kit, that’s what I’ve got the big bag for.” Instructed Kevin, “You’ve got to be ready for anything because some people don’t have new bikes and then they might break down, and you might have the right tools to help them- or at least get them home.”

For Newer Riders, what do you always recommend them having tool wise on their bike?

“Definitely have the right sizes, like wrenches for your chain. Anything that has to do with electric, like plyers, an Allan wrench- Allan Keys for sure, cause I’ve had my mirrors fly off.” Advises Kevin, “Your bike comes with that little bag [of tools]. You can definitely keep stuff for your chain, because I had my chain come off on the Grom one time, and luckily I had the tools and was able to throw it back on.”

Do you have any general advice for new riders?

“You just do it. Get a feel for it- ride your own ride.” Says Kevin, “If people are riding crazy, they have the skill to ride crazy- don’t try and mimic them because you’re definitely not going to do the same thing. I’ve had a few friends learn the hard way, definitely do your own thing, go at your own pace. It doesn’t matter if they leave you behind for a little bit. As long as you make it to where you’re going safe, that’s all that matters. You definitely don’t want to hurt yourself.

OH- wear a helmet! A lot of riders don’t like to wear helmets, but please- wear a helmet. I’m not going to say “wear gear” because I don’t wear gear, I don’t have a jacket or pants like that- but be safe.

Your CPU in your body is your head. And even with helmets people get knocked out because it’s a hard hit, so protect your head.”

Family is very important to you- how do you find a ride/work/life balance?

“After I became a full time photographer, I’m mostly home, so I’m always with my son.” Smiled Kevin, “That’s what was killing me before. I was working 12-14 hours a day. I would leave when he was sleeping, come back and he’s about ready to go to bed.

But now, I’m home all the time- I make my own schedule. I do what I want, go see my mom go visit my dad, it’s really good.”

What inspired you to become a photographer?

“I’ve always liked it since I was little, and I didn’t really know that I had a passion for it until I got ahold of my camera,” Remembers Kevin. “My wife, when she was my girlfriend at the time, bought me my first camera back in 2014, and it went on from there.”

“I’m inspired by anything I see honestly,” Explained Kevin, “But mostly my family. They help me a lot to get inspired. I get down a lot, I have an artist type of mindset where you feel like you’re not doing enough.”

When asked how he overcomes that mentality, Kevin explained, “The more you do the better you get. So once I started releasing [more content], people just started commenting and hyping me up, and I’m thinking, “I must be doing good.””

Kevin explained that it was the encouragement and engagement from his followers that keeps him going.

“Every time I post there’s more- more views, more likes, and then I get booked more!”

What’s your favorite thing to capture?

“I photograph a lot of portraits, a lot of weddings and things like that.” Says Kevin, “My favorite thing to do is Dark Photography- I love doing Dark Photography. [Also] boudoir and fancy stuff like that- that’s the ones I like the most, and that’s the ones that I get the most traction from which is insane.

And of course- I love doing cars and bikes. There’s no way I’m not going to do that!”

We love your work and passion- have you been able to see what we posted of yours? It’s gained a lot of attention!

“Yeah- That was crazy! I got followers from that too. I’ll take more later on so you guys can show them!”

“No YouTube Channel yet- I’m working on it, but I don’t want to talk about it until I actually do it.
It’s coming, keep an eye out.”
You just came out with a t-shirts with you logo- how did you come up with your logo?

“I always loved roses, it’s always been a thing.” Said Kevin, “I wanted to incorporate it, and I made the shutter around the rose- do something super simple that attracts the eye that you can put on things.”

Kevin explained that everything he does is 100% him, from the social media posts, to his log and editing of his photography- he describes himself as a “Self taught- self made millionaire.”

Kevin has some new merch coming out soon - take a look at his available designs on his social media and message for pricing and details, you could be some of the first people to rep his brand and support this artist.
What are our personal passions and hobbies currently?

“I love music, I was never able to get into it like that, but I love music. Food. Gotta love that food! I can’t really think of anything else. I used to draw, and that was huge when I was younger, and I left it when I transitioned into photography and graphic design and stuff like that.

Anything artsy, I love stuff like that.

A lot of people will tell me, “Something will come up on my newsfeed and I can already tell it’s your work because of the style. You have a certain look to your work that nobody else has, and I know it’s already your without even looking at the name.””

Kevin currently lives with his Wife, Cassia, and their 3 year old son in Lady Lake, Fl. “[My wife has] been there her whole life, and I’ve been there maybe 8 years. I love it.”

Kevin is working as a professional photographer, and enjoys riding his Kawasaki z900 any chance he can get.
